We Ski and Snowboard

Fun is the key word when it comes to We Ski and Snowboard, the latest extreme sports game to come from Namco Bandai Games to the Wii console.

The first incarnation of this game – We Ski – came out about a year ago and, while being fun, lacked the obvious snowboarding element.

This game has remedied that problem, but truth be told it probably hasn’t gone quite far enough to ensure the functionality is as good as it could be.

Make no mistake – We Ski and Snowboard is a fine game that you can thoroughly enjoy. It’s just not as good as it could have been.

One of the best pieces of interactivity the game has to offer is its very good use of the Mii avatar system. On top of the cool customizable game characters you can play with, you can rest assured your Mii will fit right in and look at home on the slopes.

There is also great variation in challenges and slopes; this is essential to any snow-based game.

The controls are simple and not annoying, and there are a number of unlockable features that give the game a nice edge (and something to aim for).

On the downside, you can expect only limited balance-board support for gameplay – you can’t use it to control your speed or perform tricks, only the direction of your character.

The audio is pretty boring, too.

But the main thing to note is that the snowboarding side of things doesn’t really change the gameplay much at all. That is, if you have played We Ski, you will notice hardly any difference with the way the snowboard performs.
