There aren’t too many games that let the player express his or her creative side as well as Spore Galactic Adventures does.
The original Spore was a massive hit in late 2008 because of its emphasis on character development and the level of fun customization that could be carried out.
This latest entry does all that and more, allowing you to level your Space Captain and create complex, interesting and original adventures.
For those new to Spore, the key point of difference is the level of control the player has over the shape and direction of the gameplay.
As you start your game you can progress through the inbuilt levels and make changes along the way, but it is only once you start customising and designing your own levels that it really hits its straps.
Some people may have been concerned that switching from the creature creation stage to the space stage would have been too difficult, but rest assured that the creators of Spore Galactic Adventures have successfully pulled it off.
When you create your own levels and scenarios, a complexity meter progressively fills, making sure you cap the level at an amount of difficulty for both the game and other players to cope with.
This might be viewed as something of a limitation, but it is also a pretty good compromise when you consider the importance of making sure your creations can be enjoyed.
Don’t forget that a big part of the fun you will have with this game is sharing your creations with others online. You will be able to benefit, and maybe even pick up some design hints from their inspirations too.
If there are any drawbacks to this excellent game, they are minor. Some levels that come included can be a bit buggy, and on occasion you will need to quit in order to restart and successfully assault the level.
For a game with so much depth, Spore Galactic Adventures hardly puts a foot wrong, making it a necessary addition to the collection of any gamer who loves to explore, create, design, challenge and think.
