In the video game world there are only a few games that have managed to stand the test of time and go down in history as highly influential on pop culture of today.
Sonic the Hedgehog is one of these games.
The journey the little blue coloured animal has taken since the early 90s has been a rollercoaster ride, but it seems there are now two distinct areas where the game has found its mark.
One is the original 2D version of the Sega Mega Dive, where Sonic would venture off, from left to right of users screens, collecting rings where he can and defeating bad guys along his way.
Then there is the 3D era, which we find now, where Sonic can go anywhere, and anyway he can in the confinements of your screen.
Every release that has tried to meet somewhere in between these two areas has failed.
The newest installment in the franchise is Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1.
This new game is clearly one designed for lovers of the original Sega era.
Episode 1 takes us back to the original format, only with improved graphics and with better effects.
While the principal of the game remains the same, the capabilities are enhanced, with Sonic now running faster, flying quicker and with more zip than ever before.
The old enemies all return and as expected, a final clash against the big bad guy at the end of each stage is almost a given.
From what we have seen, Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 should be a decent release, and will be officially released later on in the year.
