Skate 3

Despite Tony Hawk’s best efforts to dominate the extreme sport video game market, and in particular skateboarding, even he could not stop the giant that is EA Sports from coming to rain on his parade.

Their skateboarding game, fittingly titled Skate, has come a long way in its four years, and now is up to its third installment with Skate 3.

As us the case with most skateboarding games, there is a split between half pipe, Skate Park and of course street skating, with the latter dominating most of the career mode.

In Skate 3, you begin in a fictional town called Port Carverton, which replaces the old San Vanelona, which had been the backdrop for the previous two releases.

The city has a bunch of wicked stairwells, rails, hedges and ledges as well as many innovative spots and locations around town.

In the career mode, the game has you at the pinnacle of your career, and as is the case in the real world, you do what most others do and that is starting up your own board company.

But, you do not have anyone on your label, so your aim is to go out and recruit as many top boarders as you can.

In terms of the career mode challenges, most of the previous still remain such as downhill races, high-score competitions, and video challenges.

All in all, Skate 3 is a fairly good representation of skateboarding and a decent release for boarding fans.

Skate 3 is expected to be out on the shelves mid way through 2010.
