It has been more than 20 years since the excellent Punch-Out rocked Nintendo gamers with its wacky lineup of boxing heavyweights, and now a Wii version has been released to relive those glorious bouts.
In the new Punch-Out you are still Little Mac, a weedy teenager straight out of the Bronx who looks like he shouldn’t set foot inside a boxing gym, let alone the ring.
But you and Little Mac will plough your way through plenty of fun, intense levels against opponents like Doc Louis, King Hippo, Great Tiger, Bear Hugger and Super Macho Man.
Almost all the fighters in the new game come from the first edition and, with a couple of notable exceptions, they use many of the same attacks and moves (now with superior graphics and presentation, of course).
If you are worried that it could be boring to fight according to the same old pattern-based manoeuvres of the original, you will be pleased to hear that it is not.
The game provides hours of entertainment – particularly when you have friends over – and should be considered a great addition to a classic game.
