Rumours of a PS3 Slim model are picking up momentum, but gamers should not expect the model to be revealed at next week’s E3 summit.

It is understood Sony will be releasing its new model PlayStation in about six months time, but in the meantime it will wait for the current stock of PS3s sitting in stores to sell.

Once those units are all taken, however, the new unit will hit the streets and is expected to generate a fair bit of fervour among gamers.

However those hoping for a price cut to the PS3 – or for the PS3 Slim to be cheaper than its predecessor upon release – are unlikely to have their wish granted.

It is certainly possible that a price cut could come about but industry experts aren’t tipping it.
