Epic Mickey

Disney’s favourite mouse is set to make a comeback to the video game world, this time through the virtual world of the Nintendo Wii.

For a while now, the famous black and white coloured mouse has been on the decline, and one of the motives in developing the new game was to reinvent Mickey as a figure the youth of today could relate with yet again.

Developer Warren Spector was asking himself, “How can I make Mickey cool again?” when he created the new video game, Epic Mickey.

The release is based on real life events in the Disney world, and features a whole bunch of past characters, including Donald Duck.

The basic plot involves the evil character Phantom Blot, who kidnaps Mickey and brings him into a damaged dark and lonely  world.

Here, Mickey is introduced to the other main protagonist in the game, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.

The game is played form a third-person perspective with paint and thinners being the main creative tool.

Mickey can erase parts of the world using the thinner, which opens up previously hidden pathways and objects. The Paint is used to fill in parts of the world, creating platforms and objects, which can be used to solve puzzles.

In other words, the game allows users to a world of endless creativity and adventure, all through the eyes of the famous Mickey Mouse.

Epic Mickey is expected to be out later on in the year, and, for the first time in a while, we may be seeing a new, cool side to one of our all time favourite mice.
