It was only a few months ago when Australians were asked whether or not they supported the introduction of an R18+ classification for video games, or whether they believed it would spell trouble for the gaming world.
The Federal Attorney-General’s Web site made a document available for the public, outlining the pros and cons of a restriction for video games, and asking the public to voice their opinion.
With the dust finally settled on the issue, and the public constitution fast approaching the end date of February 28, the video game world are tuning in yet again, this time to see what next step will be made on the matter.
The protocol is, that once it reaches the first day of March, the department will compile information on the submitted responses and prepare a report for the Minister for Home Affairs, Brendan O’Connor.
While many people are curios as to how much spin the officials put on the findings, a spokesperson form the Attorney-Generals office said that O’Connor and the Attorneys-General would make the decision unbiased.
“We will only use the report to inform their decision whether Australia should have an R18+ classification for computer games,” they said.
O’Connor has also com out and said he is yet to form a final view on R18+ for games in Australia.
“We are consulting first rather than imposing a change so we have an opportunity to gauge all community views on the subject,” he said.
The ongoing saga is expected to regain momentum in the next few weeks.
