Ban on Alien vs Predator Overturned

Good news for video game lovers with news the Australian ban on the sci-fi video game Aliens vs. Predator being overturned by the Classification Review Board.

Initially the game was banned due to the graphical gore and violent nature of the release, but now the board has overturned their original decision by giving it an MA 15+ rating with a warning for “strong science fiction violence”.

With Australia having no R rating for its video game releases the board felt the graphical images were too disturbing and influential for the MA 15+ level.

However, now they feel the game is not as bad as first thought.

“The images are not prolonged and are interspersed with longer non violent sequences,” the board said in a statement.

“The violence is fantastical in nature and justified by the context of the game, set in a futuristic science-fiction world, inhabited by aliens and predators.

“This context serves to lessen its impact.

“The more contentious violence is randomly generated and is not dependent on player selection of specific moves.”

After the initial ban earlier this month, the UK developer of Aliens vs. Predator had refused to modify the game to suit the Australian market.

“We will not be releasing a sanitized or cut down version for territories where adults are not considered by their governments to be able to make their own entertainment choices,” Rebellion Developments said.

“Our game is not suitable for game players who are not adults.”

Australia remains one of the only countries in the world to not have an R18+ rating for video games.
