Both the movie and gaming worlds have been eagerly anticipating the outcome of James Cameron’s Avatar project, which will see a blockbuster film accompanied by a – potentially – groundbreaking game.
The biggest announcement relating to the game came in June 2008, when Ubisoft declared gamers would be experiencing it in stereoscopic 3D. That means specially designed 3D glasses and all.
Since that time the makers have been very quiet about the games direction and specifics, although it is easy to imagine the game fitting the spacious, luscious and exotic expanses that are almost certain to characterise Avatar, the movie.
In all probability gamers will be moving through an absorbing 3D realm and moving in a highly integrated way with their gaming environment. Expect to see bright colours and strange plant life, destroyed battleships and more on the alien planet in which the storyline is situated.
The film was supposed to have hit the silver screen by now, but it is still in post-production and will not be available until December 2009.
Obviously the game will hit the shelves at that time or shortly after.
Will it be a groundbreaking success or another 3D flop? Only time will tell.
